How to Choose a Gym in Dhaka: 8 Things to Check
Pick a gym you can reach in about 20 minutes at your training hour, open when you are free and not packed then. Check trainers, hygiene, AC and full fees, and try it first.
Pick between a women-only gym, ladies hours or a female section, then check trainers, privacy, changing rooms, timings, your route and the full fee before you pay.

A good ladies gym in Dhaka is one you can reach safely at your training time, with female trainers on the floor, private changing rooms and a fee you can keep paying. First decide which of three set-ups you need: a women-only gym, a mixed gym with ladies hours, or a mixed gym with a separate female section. Then visit before you pay.
As of 8 October 2026, GymCity lists 14 women-only gyms in Dhaka, 22 more Dhaka gyms with set ladies hours, and 12 female personal trainers in the city. Most ladies gyms we see charge ৳1,500–৳4,000 a month, before any admission fee.
I compared three ladies gyms near my office in one evening and tried the one with morning ladies hours first.

Women-only gyms are growing in Dhaka for a simple reason. A July 2026 report in The Financial Express found that safety and comfort are the main reasons women choose them, and that families are often more at ease with a women-only space. The need is real: the World Health Organization reports that women worldwide are less physically active than men, by about five percentage points on average.
A women-only gym admits only women, all day, and usually has only female staff. A gym with ladies hours is a mixed gym that keeps set hours, often late morning to early afternoon, for women only. A mixed gym with a female section lets women train in a separate room while men use the main floor.
| Type | Who is inside | Suits you if | Ask before joining |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women-only gym | Women members and usually female staff, at all hours | You want full privacy, or your family prefers it | Are all trainers and front-desk staff women? Is there CCTV, and who watches it? |
| Ladies hours | Women only during set hours; mixed the rest of the day | Your free time matches those hours | Exact hours, Friday and Ramadan timings, and whether male staff stay on the floor |
| Female section | Women in their own room; men elsewhere in the building | You want more machines and longer hours | Is the section fully closed off? Does it have its own entrance and changing room? |
Neither choice is right for everyone. A women-only gym gives the most privacy but often has fewer machines and shorter hours. Ladies hours give you a larger gym at a lower fee, but only if you can train in that window. A female section is a middle path; how private it feels depends on the walls and the entrance.
Check six things on your first visit: who trains you, how private the space is, the changing rooms, the timings, your route there and back, and the full fee. Most problems women report later come from one of these, not from the equipment.
Ask how many female trainers work at your training time, not just how many the gym employs. A floor trainer should correct your form and set your first routine as part of the membership. If you want one-to-one coaching, ask what a personal trainer costs as an extra. On GymCity you can also look for a female personal trainer directly with the Female Trainer filter, useful if you train at home or want someone to come with you to the gym.
Look at the windows, the glass doors and where the cameras point. Ask who can see the CCTV feed. In a mixed building, check whether men pass through the women's area to reach anything, such as a staircase, a store room or the office.
The changing room should lock from inside and be for women only. Check for clean washrooms, a place to pray if you need it, lockers you can secure with your own lock, and drinking water. If the gym has a steam room, ask whether it is women-only or shared at other times.
Write down your real free hours, then compare them with the gym's. Ask about Friday hours, Ramadan timings (many gyms shift to evenings after iftar), and whether ladies hours change during exams or holidays. A gym you can only reach twice a week will not give you results.
Check ladies hours for Friday and Ramadan before you pay, not only the weekday times.Do the trip once at the time you plan to train. Twenty minutes by rickshaw at 10am can be fifty minutes in traffic at 6pm. Check the lane outside after dark, whether the building has a guard, and whether you can easily get a ride home. In the monsoon, a gym close to home is worth more than one with a better machine.
Ask for the monthly fee, the one-time admission fee, and the price of any extras such as classes, steam or a trainer. Then ask for a free trial session or a day visit before you pay. Many gyms on GymCity show a Free Trial badge on their profile; for others, you can still send a request and ask.
Most ladies gyms in Dhaka charge ৳1,500–৳4,000 a month, plus a one-time admission fee that is commonly ৳1,000–৳3,000. Women-only gyms with air conditioning, a steam room and several female trainers sit at the upper end. Gyms with ladies hours are often cheaper, because you share a bigger gym.
Some gyms reduce or waive the admission fee if you pay for three or six months at once. You pay the gym directly, at the desk or by bKash or Nagad; GymCity does not take any payment from members. Tip: Pay monthly for your first month, even if a longer package looks cheaper. A discount only saves you money if you keep going.
Start with gyms close to home or work, because distance decides how often you go. Search your area, then compare the shortlist on hours, fee and facilities. Here is what to keep in mind in some of the areas women search for most.
Uttara: sectors are large and far apart, so search for your sector, not just "Uttara". A gym on the far side of the main road can mean a long crossing at rush hour.
Mirpur: Mirpur 1, 2, 10 and 12 each have their own busy markets. Check the route at your training time, as traffic around Mirpur 10 roundabout changes the trip a lot.
Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur: many gyms sit on upper floors of mixed-use buildings. Check the lift, the stairs and who else uses the floor.
Gulshan, Banani and Bashundhara: fees here tend to be higher, and more gyms have a separate female section rather than being women-only. Ask how closed off that section is.
On GymCity, open the gym search and turn on the Women-Friendly filter. It shows women-only gyms and gyms with ladies hours together. Each profile says "Women only" or lists the gym's ladies hours, so you can tell the two apart at a glance. Type your area in the search box to narrow the list, then sort by distance or price.
Choosing from photos alone. Photos do not show the crowd at 5pm or the state of the changing room. Visit at your training time.
Paying for six months on day one. A discount is not a saving if you stop going after six weeks.
Assuming ladies hours never change. Ask how the gym tells members about changes, for example a WhatsApp group or a notice on its GymCity profile.
Not asking who the trainers are. "Female trainer available" can mean one trainer for two hours a day.
Ignoring the trip home. A safe route back matters as much as the gym itself, especially for evening sessions.
Yes. Most ladies gyms in Dhaka are used to members training in modest clothing. Choose clothes that do not catch on machines, and comfortable trainers with a good grip. Loose ends near treadmills and cable machines are the main thing to watch.
Yes, and many women find it easier to start in one. Ask the floor trainer for a simple first routine and how they will check your form. Two or three sessions a week you actually attend is a better start than a daily plan you drop.
Look at mixed gyms with ladies hours or a female section first. If none suit you, a female personal trainer can coach you at home or online, with little or no equipment.
